ROLE OF PHARMACIST IN MANAGEMENT OF DRUG INDUCED NEPHROTOXICITY

Drug induced kidney injury is a frequent adverse event which can be costly and may require multiple interventions even leading to hospitalization. A growing number of patients are developing drug-induced nephrotoxicity due to a number of factors including polypharmacy and exposure to potentially nephrotoxic therapeutic & diagnostic procedures. Pharmacists can play a key role in identifying possible causes of drug-induced kidney injury and limit their toxic effect by identifying causative agents and suggesting appropriate substitutions.
