MATERNAL AND FOETAL OUTCOME OF DENGUE FEVER IN PREGNANCY-A PROSPECTIVE STUDY

Background: There is an increase in incidence of dengue in India recently, including the number of pregnant woman being infected. The treatment is mainly conservative, unfortunately, there is no specific treatment available for dengue fever except supportive care. However, here we are presenting the maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality associated with dengue fever during pregnancy. Providers need to know these complications while managing pregnant dengue patients.This study is used to access the Maternal and foetal outcome of Dengue fever in pregnancy. Methods: This is a prospective study of all pregnant women admitted in obstetric ward in Tagore Medical College and Hospital,Chennai in the year of 2017 who were diagnosed as Dengue fever and confirmed serologically (Tests:Non Structural Protein-I&II, IgM antibody, Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay, Polymerase Chain Reaction). Patients were included irrespective of period of gestation and the age of mother and were followed till delivery. Results: During the study period, 43 cases of maternal dengue were diagnosed and confirmed serologically in the year 2017. The acute viremia, leads to thrombocytopenia, PPH, PPE, MSL, Preterm and Low birth weight in 9% of total cases.In this study we intend to prove that Dengue complicating Pregnancy as a high morbidity ailment. Conclusions: The results correlate with gestational age of occurrence of dengue fever. Early onset or late onset in pregnancy appeared to have a bad prognosis. There should be high suspicion of dengue in pregnant women with fever.The choice of treatment is conservative.
