A REVIEW ON -FLOATING DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS

ABSTRACT

Recent advances in novel drug delivery (NDDS) aims to enhance the safety and efficacy of drug molecule by formulating a convenient dosage form for ease of administration and to achieve better patient compliance. Floating drug delivery systems (FDDS) is advanced and convenient drug delivery system. In recent decades, there have been numerous attempts to overcome the barriers like short gastric residence times and unpredictable gastric emptying times. It is because of dissimilarity in gastric physiology, that is gastric pH, and motility exhibit both intra-as well as inter-subject variation exhibit important impact on gastric retention time and drug delivery behavior. The purpose of writing this review on floating drug delivery systems (FDDS) was to triggered the attention towards formulation of stomach specific (gastro retentive) dosage forms that is floating drug delivery systems, The principal and mechanism of floatation to achieve gastric retention. Now a days various approaches are utilized in the prolongation of the gastric retention time. Including floating drug delivery systems (FDDS), In this review article current & recent developments of Stomach Specific FDDS are discussed.
