VALBENAZINE - A NEW DRUG FOR TARDIVE DYSKINESIA

ABSTRACT

Extrapyramidal symptoms are one of the most worrisome side effects specially with first generation antipsychotics. Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) is one such side effect for which prior to 2017 there was no US FDA approved treatment. Treatment for TD included gingko biloba, clonazepam, tetrabenazine were used with ambivalent response. Valbenazine and Deutetrabenazine became the first US FDA approved drugs for TD treatment.
