ABSTRACT
Pharmacognostic evaluation helps to screen the commercial varieties, substitutes, adulterants and any other quality control of the drugs. Physicochemical analysis a method of investigating physicochemical systems that makes possible a determination of the nature of the interactions between the components of a system through a study of the relations between the system's physical properties and composition. The present study deals with development of pharmacognostical and preliminary pharmaceutical profile of Swarna Prashana Yoga. Swarna Prashana Yoga prepared with Madhu (Honey), Ghrita, Vacha Churna and Swarna Bhasma. The pharmacognostical characters includes macroscopy, microscopy, powder microscopy analysis of drugs and loss on drying, Ash Value, Refractive index etc. are included in Physicochemical Analysis. Qualitative scrutiny demonstrated the presence of Starch grains, Parenchyma cells, Scalariform vessels etc. The pH of Swarna Prashana Yoga was 4.0, Specific gravity was 1.387, Refractive index was 1.499, loss on drying was 11.55. High performance thin layer chromatography were carried out after organizing appropriate solvent system in which maximum nine spots were distinguished. This study concluded with specific characters and its possible compounds which may possess its therapeutic effect.
Keywords: Pharmacognostical, Physico-chemical, Swarna Prashana.
