METHYLENETETRAHYDROFOLATE REDUCTASE C677T GENE POLYMORPHISM IN PSORIASIS IN CHINESE HAN POPULATION

ABSTRACT
Objective: A study to evaluate gene polymorphisms of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene C677T that exists in cases with psoriasis in the Chinese Han population with a view to find linkage of risk. Methods: A case control study of 94 individuals were designed. Among them were 44 patients with psoriasis, (40 males and 4 females), and 50 healthy controls. The extraction of genomic DNA of cases and controls were performed and for amplification polymerase chain reaction was used. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of MTHFR gene (rs1801133) was analysed using Polymerase Chain Reaction - Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism method (PCR-RFLP). Results: In the present study we had assessed the gene and single nucleotide protein MR - C677T Gene (rs 1801133) and we evaluated that TC type, CC type, TT C type, TT T type were seen in 9 cases, 00 cases, 35 cases, 9 cases and 79 cases respectively. TC type accounts about 20.5% and TT type 79.5% of case controls. The absence of the C allele was seen in 35 cases of psoriasis. All the control displayed the TT allele of MR - C677T Gene (rs 1801133) so P value could not be evaluated. In the present study, we had about 44 patients, on evaluation of the gender, shows a higher incidence of psoriasis in males, with a male to female ratio of 10:1. The age of the individuals in the study ranged between 9 to 86 years. The mean (SD) age is 47.45 (19.97). The mean ±SD PASI score is 10.71±5.91. Conclusion: Polymorphism in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene (677C>T, rs1801133) has no association with psoriasis in Chinese Han population. Those with extensive form of the disease had no association with polymorphism in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene (677C>T, rs1801133).
