ABSTRACT
Free radicals can cause some major complicated diseases like Diabetes mellitus, Coronary heart disease, Cancer. The present study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant properties of methanol extract of Trigonella foenum-gracum. Free radical scavenging activity was evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical. The IC50 of the methanolic extract was 12.06μg/ml and that of ascorbic acid was 6.14 μg/ml. Phytochemical screening test indicates the presence of Saponins, Glycosides, Flavonoids and Alkaloids. The study reveals that the Trigonella foenum-gracum consumption would exert several beneficial effects by virtue of their significant antioxidant activity.
