ABSTRACT
A series of 2-(aryl)-5-(arylidene)-4-thiazolidinone derivatives (TH1-T15) was synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial potential. Antimicrobial Activity was performed by tube dilution and zone of inhibition methods against Gram negative E. Coli, Gram positive bacteria: B. Subtilis, S. aureus, and fungal strains: A. niger and C. albicans. Among the synthesized derivatives, compounds 2, 10 and 12 was found to be most active against bacterial strains and 3, 8 and 13 was found to be most active against the fungal strains. All the titled compounds (TH1-T15) were characterized by 1H NMR and IR spectral data.
Keywords: 4-Thiazolidinone, Hydrazone, Thiazole, Antimicrobial activity.
