INTEGRATIVE HOMEOPATHIC SUPPORTIVE CARE IN MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROMES AND BONE MARROW FAILURE: A NARRATIVE REVIEW OF CLINICAL EVIDENCE, BIOLOGICAL RATIONALE, AND FUTURE RESEARCH DIRECTIONS

ABSTRACT
Background: Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) are heterogeneous clonal disorders of hematopoietic stem cells characterized by ineffective haematopoiesis, peripheral cytopenias, transfusion dependency, and an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukaemia. Current conventional management focuses on supportive transfusions, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents, hypomethylating agents, immunosuppressive therapy, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Despite these advances, many patients continue to experience persistent cytopenias, fatigue, recurrent infections, and reduced quality of life. Objective: To review the current literature regarding homeopathy as an integrative supportive therapy in MDS and bone marrow failure disorders and discuss potential mechanisms, clinical observations, and future research priorities. Methods: A narrative review of published literature, case reports, observational studies, and experimental research involving homeopathy in MDS, aplastic anaemia, and related bone marrow failure syndromes was undertaken. Results: Published reports suggest that individualized homeopathic treatment, particularly utilizing LM (50 millesimal) potencies alongside nutritional optimization and conventional haematology care, may improve fatigue, constitutional symptoms, haemoglobin levels, quality of life, and reduce transfusion requirements in selected patients. Experimental studies indicate possible immunomodulatory and hematopoietic effects of certain homeopathic preparations, although definitive mechanisms remain unclear. Conclusion: Current evidence remains limited to case reports, observational studies, and laboratory investigations. Homeopathy should presently be considered only as a complementary supportive modality within multidisciplinary haematological care. Well-designed randomized controlled trials are required before definitive clinical recommendations can be made.
