ABSTRACT
Kabasura Kudineer, a traditional Siddha medicine was analysed for their health benefits. The methanol extract of Kabasura Kudineer was analysed for phytoconstituents and evaluated for antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assays. Its inhibitory effects on α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes were determined using standard protocols. The extract's cytotoxicity against A549 cancer cells was assessed via 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, and morphological changes in treated cells were observed. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins in the extract. Kabasura Kudineer extract exhibited significant antioxidant activity, inhibited α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes, showed cytotoxicity against A549 cells. Morphological changes observed in treated cells suggested induction of apoptosis.
