ABSTRACT
The development of digital applications as disease management tools has been advanced by the rising incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM). Digital health interventions, such as digital therapies and mobile health (mHealth) applications, provide individualized support for glycemic control, medication adherence, lifestyle change, and self-monitoring. Through an analysis of previous research and meta-analyses, this study investigates the efficacy of smartphone applications in DM management. Through data tracking, real-time feedback, integration with healthcare systems, and the facilitation of patient-provider communication and remote monitoring, applications support behavioral changes, improve glycemic control, and increase patient engagement—all of which can result in better health outcomes. To realize their full potential issues including user accessibility, governmental control, and data privacy concerns need to be resolved. Although these show potential in improving diabetic self-management, more study is required to assess their scalability and long-term efficacy.
