ABSTRACT
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent chronic disorder marked by the retrograde flow of gastric contents into the esophagus, resulting in troublesome symptoms and potential complications. Advances in diagnostic techniques, understanding of pathophysiology, and novel pharmacologic agents have enriched the management armamentarium. This review summarizes recent progress in the diagnosis, pathogenesis, and pharmacological management of GERD, focusing on mechanisms of action for contemporary drugs, symptoms, complications, and evidence-based treatment strategies.
Keywords: Gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD, proton pump inhibitors, potassium-competitive acid blockers, diagnosis, pharmacology, prokinetics, Barrett's esophagus, mucosal protection, complications, personalized medicine.
