ABSTRACT
This paper is a review. While manufacturing, the production and sale of capital goods are major earners of income for most countries of the world, the mining of both solid and liquid minerals constitutes major sources of revenue also for many countries of the world. The paper sets out to put Nigeria in proper perspective when world mineral distribution is considered. In its approach the paper identified some very valuable world minerals such as Aluminum, Copper, Iron Ore, Chromium, Diamond, Lithium, Gold, Platinum, and Silver with a view to establishing their occurrence/distribution in economic quantities in Nigeria. The methodology made use of different types of data sources such as from the internet, printed materials, journal articles and books. From the data gathered one would be able to justify or discard the position of many Nigerians that the country has abundant mineral resources. The finding revealed that of the nine solid minerals considered, only iron ore and gold is found in Nigeria and their economic benefits are yet to be fully tapped. Nigeria is barely among the world’s top ten producers of crude oil.
