ABSTRACT
Spindle cell carcinoma (Sarcomatoid carcinoma) is a rare and
aggressive variant of squamous cell carcinoma. They
are exceedingly rare in the head and neck area. Very few with maxillary origin have been reported in the literature.
Compared to squamous cell carcinoma of the maxilla, Spindle cell carcinoma is more difficult to diagnose. It most
commonly affects older patients, with a peak incidence in the 6 th to 7 th decades of life, and its occurrence in
younger patients is uncommon. This case report describes a unique presentation of spindle cell carcinoma in a
relatively young 40 year old male patient, emphasizing the diagnostic challenges.
